Get your school swimming with Penguins

We offer school swimming sessions for pupils of all ages, from pre-schools to primary and secondary schools, all the way up to college and university swimmers. We handle everything from the moment you arrive, from pupil assessment and ability groupings to safeguarding and insurance. Using a small pupil-teacher ratio, we can make sure each individual receives plenty of attention and tailored teaching. We monitor pupils’ progress in conjunction with the ASA Learn To Swim Awards and issue awards on completion.

Working with you

We are aware of the curriculum requirements for swimming across the key stages and work with you to ensure children can meet their goals and more. We notice that swimming can be a valuable way to engage with children who struggle in the classroom, or for whom track and field sports are difficult. Our gentle, sensitive and fun approach helps children grow in self-esteem and transfers to development outside the pool too.

Ages and stages

At pre-school level, our fun, interactive sessions are filled with games, music and sensory learning, to promote water confidence and enjoyment. As they progress, we introduce elements of water safety and start to introduce stroke technique.

Technique, safety and enjoyment are the basis for primary lessons too. We aim to get Key Stage 2 children swimming a confident, smooth 25 metres to meet their criteria, rather than a length of frantic panicky doggy paddle. We also run lifesaving classes for little ones.

At secondary level, we work with all ages, including GCSE students, to gain the best possible swimming grade. We support Duke of Edinburgh students to complete physical activity sections. We can also run your school swimming gala or similar event.

At college and university level, we work with trainee PE teachers and those who wish to become swimming teachers or lifeguards to gain their qualifications. We run specialist days for Swim Societies, as well as access to Masters level training for swimmers aged 18+ who wish to keep progressing with their swimming.

What we offer

Our school partnerships have four different elements. All four work together as the perfect package, or you can select certain services that meet your needs:

1. Water safety information sessions
We come to your school to deliver engaging, interactive sessions in the classroom or assembly, looking at water safety, beach lifeguard flags and their meanings, what to do if you are struggling
in the water, and what to do if you see someone else who needs help.

2. Weekly swimming lessons
These can either be held at your own pool or at our facilities at Lancing College. We assess each pupil, put them into groups and tailor our teaching to their level, following the ASA School Swimming Charter Awards.

3. Specialist swimming fun days
Our unique specialist sessions get children using their swimming skills in engaging and unusual ways. We team up with the Sussex Wildlife Trust to turn the pool into a diving paradise, full of play fish and plants, to teach both snorkelling and marine biology. We work with Worthing Water Polo Club to teach water polo to all levels. We also link up with the RNLI. We can work with you to use swimming to teach elements of the curriculum for both STEM subjects and creative activities.

4. Lifesaving training and qualifications
Lifesaving and water safety are at the heart of our approach. We offer personal survival teaching for primary age swimmers, and the RLSS Rookies Lifesaving training at secondary level. For swimmers aged 16+, we can help them achieve the National Pool Lifeguard Qualification – this can be done as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
