SQUAD SESSIONS
MORE THAN JUST LAPS
Swim with purpose. Train without pressure.
Squad sessions are designed for swimmers aged 8 – 16 years who want more than just lanes and laps. Whether they are working towards their GCSE PE, BTEC Sport, or Duke of Edinburgh, or simply want to stay fit, this is the space. We focus on technique, skill development, and include the Rookie Lifesaving Programme. Many of our swimmers go on to qualify as lifeguards at 16.

FAQ's
What do I need to bring to my Squad Sessions?
Just your swimsuit, hat and goggles. If you have your own fins, great — bring them along! If not, no worries, we have a vast selection for you to use.
Thinking About Joining a Competitive Club?
Absolutely — and we'll be right behind you! If competitive swimming, water polo, Artistic Swimming, or Surf Lifesaving is where you want to go and specialise, we'll help you get there. From advice and preparation to setting up club trials, we'll support you every step of the way.
Do You Have SEN, a Health Issue or Physical Disability?
Please reach out — we'd love to offer support and provision where we can. With over 32 years of experience, specialist training and expert advisors, we are proud to ensure our swim school is inclusive and meets the needs of every swimmer where possible. We're experienced in adapting our coaching and implementing strategies that make swimming accessible and enjoyable for everyone at Penguins.
What do parents/carers do during Sessions?
Parents and carers of swimmers aged 16 and under are asked to always remain on site. Grab a seat in the foyer or sit on poolside to watch.
How are the sessions paid for?
Nice and straightforward! Squad sessions are paid half-termly in advance by bank transfer. Everything you need — including full payment details — will be on the swimming invoice we send you.
Period Support for Girls
Periods shouldn't mean missing out on swimming — and at Penguins, they don't have to.
We're here to support every girl in feeling comfortable and confident in the water. A few simple tips: wear a dark swimsuit with period-proof briefs, bring a dark towel for poolside, and know that bathroom breaks are always welcome — just let us know.
Feel free to tell us confidentially if you're on your period. We'll always listen, never judge.
Swimming can be genuinely helpful for period health — just go at your own pace. And rest assured, pool chemicals keep everything completely safe and hygienic.
We support you every stroke of the way!
